Update 2004 May 13:

Survey Closed. Thanks to all who participated

Planetarium.net is not available.
For some time now, when we have tried to contact the PLANETARIUM.NET online forum at http://planetarium.net/phpBB2/, it has not been available. Dome-L at Planetarium.net is still in operation.

Survey of IPS Members and Associates. (Survey closed, 2004 May 13.) The next step in learning how IPS can respond to the needs of the members and associates is a survey that was distributed in the March edition of the Planetarian. Instead of filling out the paper version of the survey, a better way to take the survey is to follow the link in this article to our online site. If you read this before February 15, we are still experimenting with the survey, so, if you fill out the form (if it is actually available) the results will not be added to the database. To take the survey, wait until after February 15, and follow this link:

IPS Survey 2004

The survey site should allow you to return and make additions to your survey (if you use the same web browser and allow cookies). Many thanks for taking the time to consider the issues raised in the survey. Your response can make a real difference to IPS.

Strategic Issues at a glance. To consider the future of the International Planetarium Society, Ian McLennan and Robert Ballantyne are beginning with some of the comments captured at the Riot Session held at the conclusion of the Wichita Conference, as well as concerns expressed by the IPS Council. These issues and some background facts are summarized on this chart.

Online forum is a feature of the study. Planetarium.net, a new service of Dome-L, has been chosen as the online site of a live discussion to be held in early January. Robert Ballantyne commented that we need to hear what people are really thinking about IPS. "Online forums have emerged as way an international group can act as a real community," he said. This forum is a key feature of the IPS study. Regular announcements about the timing of the online discussions will be published on Dome-L. Members of the planetarium community are encouraged to join Planetarium.net soon to learn the culture and to experience the software.

IPS Council Announces Study. On October 4, 2003, at the IPS Council Meeting in Jena, the IPS council announced they they have authorized a strategic study of this organization. Details here.
